Kangaroo Creek is a modest but attractive waterway in the southern Australian Capital Territory, flowing through eucalypt forest and grassy valleys within the catchment of the Cotter River. Most visitors approach from Canberra via Cotter Road, turning onto the Brindabella Road and then following unsealed forestry tracks that lead toward the creek. A high-clearance vehicle is useful after rain, but the final sections are usually passable in a standard car during dry months. The nearest sealed parking areas sit roughly 45 minutes from central Canberra, after which short walking tracks descend to the water.
Early spring and mid-autumn deliver the most comfortable temperatures and reliable water flow. Summer visits are possible but require extra water and awareness of bushfire danger; winter brings cold nights and occasional frost on the valley floor. Avoid the creek after heavy rain, when tracks become slippery and creek crossings can rise quickly.
Short walks follow the creek upstream and downstream, passing stands of ribbon gum and occasional stands of blackwood. Birdwatchers often spot white-browed scrubwrens, crimson rosellas and the occasional wedge-tailed eagle soaring above the ridges. Photographers appreciate the dappled light on the water and the contrast of granite boulders against green understorey. Swimming holes are small and shallow; they suit a quick cool-off rather than extended paddling. Fishing is permitted in season with the appropriate licence, though the creek holds mainly small native species.

Kangaroo Creek sits within easy reach of several other ACT natural highlights. The Cotter Dam and its reservoir lie to the north, while the higher peaks of Namadgi National Park are a short drive south.
