A high-clearance vehicle is useful on the final unsealed section, though ordinary cars manage it in dry weather. Public transport does not reach the area, so private vehicle or organised tour is required.
Begin at the old Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station, where interpretive signs explain its role receiving live television from the Apollo 11 moonwalk. Short walks lead from the station to lookouts over the creek valley. Longer options include the 6 km return trail that follows the creek downstream through stands of ribbon gum before climbing to a ridge with views toward Mount Tennent. Birdwatchers often spot wedge-tailed eagles, crimson rosellas and yellow-tailed black cockatoos. In warmer months the creek’s deeper pools offer refreshing spots for a quick dip, though currents can be stronger than they appear after rain.

Winter walks are crisp and clear, with fewer visitors, yet frosts make the unsealed road slippery in the early morning.
Combine a visit with the Cotter River valley, the historic village of Tharwa, or the longer walks to Mount Clear and the Yankee Hat rock-art site within Namadgi National Park. The same road continues toward Adaminaby in New South Wales, opening a scenic loop drive.
