Mount Miroku: Hiking Kasugai’s Quiet Peak in Aichi
A modest summit near Nagoya offering forest trails, seasonal foliage, and sweeping views over the Nobi Plain.

A compact city park centered on two gentle hills offering quiet walks, seasonal foliage, and easy access from central Kasugai.
Futagoyama Park occupies a pair of low, connected hills in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture, just north of Nagoya. The name literally means Twin-Peak Mountain, and the two rounded summits form the park’s main feature. Residents use the 1.8-kilometer network of paved and gravel paths for daily exercise, while visitors appreciate the quick escape from urban surroundings without needing a full-day outing.
The main loop begins near the south entrance and climbs steadily to the first summit (about 15 minutes) before crossing a shallow saddle to the second peak. Both offer modest viewpoints over Kasugai’s rooftops and, on clear days, distant views toward the Nōbi Plain. Benches and small clearings make the route suitable for a relaxed 45- to 60-minute circuit.
Early April brings scattered cherry trees along the lower slopes. Late November through early December transforms the hillsides with maple and ginkgo color. The park remains open year-round, but these two periods draw the largest local crowds.
Flat grass patches near the main gate are popular for weekend picnics. A modest playground and public restrooms sit at the base, making the park practical for families with young children.
From Nagoya Station, take the Meitetsu train to Kasugai Station (about 15 minutes). Exit the south side and walk 12 minutes east along Route 155, or board a local bus toward Futagoyama and alight at the park stop. Free street parking is available along the approach road for drivers, though spaces fill quickly on weekend mornings. The park has no entrance gate or admission fee.
Weekday mornings or late afternoons offer the quietest experience. Avoid the immediate post-work rush on clear spring or autumn evenings. Summer visits are comfortable under the tree cover, while winter walks are short and crisp with occasional frost on the upper slopes.
Combine a visit with Kasugai’s central shopping arcade (10 minutes south) or continue to the larger Aichi Prefectural Forest Park, reachable in 25 minutes by car. Nagoya’s Sakae district and Osu shopping area lie 20–25 minutes away by train, providing an easy urban contrast after a morning on the hills.
