Walk the circular path around the hill’s perimeter for changing perspectives of the surrounding suburbs and bushland. Native plantings of eucalypts and wattles provide shade and attract birds, making the area pleasant for a relaxed stroll. Photographers favour the western slope at sunset when the city lights begin to twinkle below.
Getting There
Capital Hill sits at the southern end of Commonwealth Avenue. Frequent buses from Canberra City Interchange stop at nearby Federation Mall; the walk uphill takes ten minutes. Drivers can use the underground car park beneath Parliament House. Cyclists follow the dedicated paths that converge on the hill from Lake Burley Griffin.

Canberra’s spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) bring mild temperatures and clear skies ideal for outdoor exploration. Summer can be hot, while winter mornings may be frosty, yet both seasons reward early visitors with quieter grounds and dramatic light on the Ranges.
