Built in 1914, St. Mary & St. George Anglican Church stands as one of Jasper’s earliest permanent structures. Local craftsmen used hand-hewn logs and river stone to create a simple yet enduring design that blends with the surrounding forest. The interior features exposed timber beams, handcrafted pews, and stained-glass windows that cast colored light across the nave during sunny afternoons.

Visitors enter through the main doors to find a peaceful nave where the scent of aged wood lingers. The east-facing window above the altar frames Mount Edith Cavell, creating a natural focal point for quiet contemplation. A small side chapel contains memorial plaques honoring early Jasper residents and railway workers. Outside, the churchyard offers a short loop path through mature evergreens with interpretive signs explaining the building’s construction and its role in the community.
Practical Visiting Tips
Plan 20–30 minutes inside the church and another 15 minutes to walk the grounds. The site remains open daily for self-guided visits, though services occur on Sunday mornings. Photography is permitted without flash; please keep voices low as the space is still used for worship.

The church sits on the edge of downtown Jasper, a short walk from the train station and main commercial streets. Arrive by car via Highway 16; free street parking is available nearby. Late spring through early fall offers the most comfortable weather and longest daylight for combining a visit with hikes in Jasper National Park. Winter visits are possible but require warm clothing and awareness of icy paths.
