The Hiking Experience

The main route begins at a small parking area near the rural track that leads toward the mountain. The path climbs steadily through pine woodland and open scrub, passing occasional dry-stone walls and abandoned terraces. Near the top, a short scramble over limestone slabs leads to the summit cairn, where the entire south-east coast unfolds from Cap Blanc to the distant silhouette of Cabrera island on clear days.

Flora and Fauna

Spring brings carpets of wild rosemary, thyme and the occasional orchid, while resident birds include Sardinian warblers, blue rock thrushes and circling booted eagles. In autumn the landscape turns golden and the air is crisp, perfect for longer ridge walks that connect Puig des Avencs with neighbouring Puig de sa Morena.

Best Time to Visit

October through May offers the most comfortable temperatures and reliable visibility. Summer hikes are possible but require an early start to avoid midday heat and strong southerly winds that can buffet the exposed summit.

Getting There

From Palma, take the Ma-19 motorway toward Llucmajor, then follow local roads to the hamlet of es Cosconar. A signed gravel track continues to the trailhead. Those staying on the east coast can approach via Santanyí and Campos, combining the hike with a visit to the nearby Coves dels Hams or the historic centre of Llucmajor.
