Why Pico Lahuz Stands Out
At 535 metres, Pico Lahuz rises gently above the rolling farmland west of Cudillero, offering one of the most accessible high viewpoints in western Asturias. On clear days the 360-degree vista reaches the Cantabrian Sea, the sinuous coastline near Luarca, and the jagged silhouette of the Picos de Europa far to the east. Unlike busier coastal miradores, the summit remains quiet, surrounded by heather and low scrub that change colour with the seasons.
How to Reach the Viewpoint
Drive the AS-36 coastal road between Cudillero and Luarca, then turn inland at the hamlet of Riberas onto a narrow paved lane signposted “Pico Lahuz.” The final 1.8 km climbs steadily through eucalyptus and pasture; a small gravel parking area sits just below the summit. From the car park a 10-minute footpath leads to the trig point and a simple stone bench. Public transport is limited; the nearest bus stop is in Riberas, requiring an additional 40-minute uphill walk.
Best Time to Visit and What to Expect
Spring and early autumn deliver the clearest skies and wildflower displays. Summer afternoons can bring sea mist that obscures the horizon, while winter offers crisp air but occasional frost on the path. Sunrise and late afternoon are ideal for photographers; the low light rakes across the layered landscape and highlights the white surf along the cliffs. Carry a light jacket even in summer, as wind at the top is constant.

All three destinations lie within a 25-minute drive, making Pico Lahuz an easy half-day addition to any coastal itinerary.
