La Xamoca rises quietly above the valleys of eastern Asturias, offering hikers sweeping views across the Redes Natural Park without the crowds of the Picos de Europa. Reaching the Trailhead

The mountain sits between the villages of Caso and Sobrescobio. Most visitors start from the small parking area near the Collado de la Xamoca, reached by a winding local road from the AS-117. Public transport is limited, so a car or taxi from nearby Pola de Laviana is the most reliable option. Once parked, clear signposts mark the start of the main ascent.

Main Hiking Route

The classic route follows a well-trodden path through mixed woodland before emerging onto open slopes. The round-trip distance is approximately 8 km with 650 m of elevation gain, suitable for fit walkers in 3–4 hours. The final section is rocky but non-technical; good boots and a walking pole help on the descent.

From the top you look north toward the sea on clear days and south into the heart of the Redes beech woods.
