La Conyonada rises quietly in the eastern Asturian cordillera, offering hikers a compact but rewarding summit experience without the crowds of the Picos de Europa. Its rounded granite shoulders and grassy cols create a landscape that feels both intimate and expansive, with long views across the Nalón valley and distant limestone massifs.
Most visitors approach from the village of Campo de Caso, reachable by bus from Oviedo or by car via the AS-117. A signed track leaves the village and climbs steadily through beech forest before opening onto open pasture; the final approach to the summit follows a clear ridge path marked with cairns.
The top is a broad, windswept platform with a simple trigonometric marker. On clear days the panorama stretches from the Cantabrian Sea to the peaks of León. Spring brings carpets of gentians and narcissus; autumn colors the surrounding beech woods in copper and gold.
Late May through early October offers the most reliable conditions. July and August are warmest but can bring afternoon thunderstorms; shoulder months deliver quieter trails and softer light for photography.
Combine a morning on La Conyonada with an afternoon at the Redes Natural Park visitor centre or the medieval bridge at Puente de Arco. The cheese dairies of Caso and the salmon rivers of the Nalón valley provide further reasons to linger in the area.
