El Fumat rises sharply from the northern coast of Menorca, offering hikers one of the island’s most rewarding short climbs. How to Reach the Trailhead

Most visitors start from the minor road that runs between Es Mercadal and the Cap de Favàritx lighthouse. A small, unsigned parking area sits near the 5 km marker; from there a clear footpath climbs northeast through low maquis vegetation. The route is unsigned but easy to follow, passing dry-stone walls and occasional pine clusters before reaching the broad summit plateau. Allow 45–60 minutes one way for the steady ascent.

Best Time to Visit

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) bring mild temperatures and clear visibility. Summer hikes are possible but start at dawn to avoid heat and strong tramontana winds. Winter offers solitude yet can bring slippery rock after rain.
